The new generation ATC - Trailer Control stabilization system for caravans is equipped with updated electronics with higher efficiency and contributes to greater safety when driving with a caravan.

There are situations that every driver fears. The trailer will sway during the journey due to the current situation, gusting wind, air pressure when overtaking a truck or an evasive manoeuvre. In the worst case, the driver loses control and an accident occurs. The AL-KO ATC system, along with other measures, helps prevent such situations.

The AL-KO ATC stabilization system uses a lateral acceleration sensor to detect trailer sway at the axle level. A permissible range of lateral movements is stored in the system. When this range is exceeded, the system applies the central brake rod before the sway reaches uncontrolled limits. Pulling the central drawbar activates the trailer's wheels. This will "stretch" the whole rig and return the trailer to a stable running path. The braking effect of the AL-KO Trailer Control system is so subtle that the driver is not even able to notice it. The system will also not illuminate the trailer's brake lights during this gentle braking.

The new generation AL-KO ATC stabilization system for caravans can be used for all caravans with a AL-KO chassis manufactured after 1998 . The system connects to the trailer's 13-pin plug, from which it is powered (the trailer cannot be connected to a 7-pin plug). On start-up, an automatic operational check is performed and a green light indicates readiness for operation.

Advantages of the AL-KO ATC - Trailer Control new generation system:

  • It reacts earlier and more efficiently than the stabilisation systems of a towing vehicle.
  • It continuously monitors the sideways sway of the caravan.
  • Gentle interventions restore the stability of the vehicle.
  • The horizontal installation does not reduce the ground clearance of the trailer as it did in the first generation with vertical installation.
  • The system is available in variants up to a total trailer weight of 3500 kg

The AL-KO ATC Trailer Control system for caravans is available in several versions. For optimum effect, it is essential to always choose the right variant for the specific trailer. The following trailer parameters are important for determining the right variant:

Number of axles

The system is available either as a single-axle or double-axle trailer

Total trailer weight

Or the maximum technically permissible weight of the trailer - this is the maximum weight that the trailer must not exceed. It can be found in the trailer documents and on the trailer's nameplate. The different variants of the system are always designed for a certain range of maximum permissible trailer weights. The maximum permissible (formerly known as gross) trailer weight must always be within the range of the variant.

Minimum trailer weight

The ATC for caravans is always set for a certain minimum trailer weight. The instantaneous weight of the trailer should never fall below this limit. It is assumed that caravans already have a relatively high kerb weight without load. For cargo trailers, which have a greater weight difference between the loaded and unloaded trailer compared to residential trailers, a special version of the AL-KO ATC Trailer Control system for cargo trailers is produced.

Please note: The ATC system for caravans cannot, and is not designed to, intervene in the event of grossly negligent driving or in the event of improper behaviour of the trailer due to incorrect loading (e.g. too high a centre of gravity in the case of a narrow trailer) to such an extent that its faultless operation can always be guaranteed. The ATC system for caravans in no way neglects the driver's duties.
