The new Fristom ALU SMART control unit for combined LED trailer lights simulates the operation of conventional incandescent lights for the tow truck electronics that control trailer lighting and are not yet ready for modern low-consumption LED lighting
One of the advantages of the increasingly used LED diode lighting for trailers is its very low consumption while maintaining high luminosity. Unfortunately, the electronics of some towing vehicles, which also check the proper functioning of the trailer lighting, are not prepared for such low consumption of the trailer and are preset only for much higher current consumption of classic light bulbs. Thanks to their very low consumption, the trailer's LED lights are then detected by the towing vehicle as faulty bulbs and the on-board computer reports an error, possibly disconnecting the power supply to the towing device's socket. It is for these cases that the control unit connected between the towing vehicle and the trailer is designed. The control unit simulates the tow truck's electronics load of a normal light bulb and the operation of the connected LED diode lamp is thus trouble-free. The control unit is then able to transmit to the on-board computer of the towing vehicle even a possible malfunction of the turn signals of the LED diode lamps.
The control box simulates the load for up to 7 trailer lighting functions (L+P marker light, L+P blinker, brake lights, fog lights, reverse)
Characteristics:
- Meets the ECE-R48 standard
- In the event of a short circuit, inclusion of a light bulb in the circuit or overheating, it disconnects the relevant load from the circuit by itself
- For vehicles with an operating voltage of 12V
- Working temperature from -40ºC to 55ºC
- Weight: approximately 1750 g
- The device is attached to the trailer frame with four screws.
Simulates the load:
- 2x17W (blinkers)
- 2x4W (sidelights)
- 1x35W (brake lights)
- 1x 17W (fog light)
- 1x 17W (reversing light)
Fault indication:
- 80mA (blinkers)
- 30mA (sidelights)
- 50mA (brake lights)
- 100mA (fog light)
- 100mA (reversing light)
Maximum output current:
- 0.5A
Input:
- Cable 7x0.75mm² + 1x1mm² (frame) 0.5m long with 13 pin plug (12V)
Exit:
- Cable 7x0.75mm² + 1x1mm² (frame) 2.5m long with 13 pin socket (12V)
